february releases
Despite February’s characterization as the Month of Romance, there are shockingly (to me at least, who is not at all versed in the world of publishing) few exciting romance book releases this month. Though, maybe that is a good thing…*looks at TBR pile with shame*. With that being said, here are the three books I am looking forward to diving into this month…
Perfect Match: An Opposites Attact Valentine’s Novella by Eliza McClane (Feb 6th)
They couldn't be more different, but wild-at-heart Rose and sweet-but-square Tyler have to make it through a romantic Valentine's weekend to win the prize at the end - all while proving they're certainly, definitely, really not the perfect match the dating app proclaims them to be. This is guranteed to be mega high steam, so if that’s not your jam then abandon ship!!
Take the Lead by Alexis Daria (Feb 14th)
I had the pleasure of reading an ARC of this book and I loved it, which is unspurprising, because Alexis Daria is easily one of the best contemproary romance writers out there. Like all of Daria's books, this is an incredibly fun setup for a romance story. An Alaskan survival hero + a ballroom dancer heroine + a reality tv dance competition = a perfect forced proximity, opposites attract, high steam read.
Forever Your Rogue by Erin Langston (Feb 28th)
A fake betrothal between a newly widowed Cora, Viscountess Dane and the charming rogue and second-son, Nathaniel Travers leads to chaos, and of course *quel surprise* real feelings and…perhaps even love?
what I read in january
Remember in my last post when I said that I was going to read five essential historical romances that I had missed reading? Well, I failed. To be fair, I technically have two days to finish the three I have left, so I might be able to do it, but most likely I won’t. And why is that? Well, becuase I fell into a Kindle Unlimited pit, also known as Claire Kent/Noelle Adams’ back catalogue. In my defence, her books (under both pennames) are mostly all novellas so it’s super easy to rifle through them!!!! I have no regrets. I do promise to finish the final three historicals and do a separate post discussing them. The two I have read so far are quite interesting and I want to give myself a bit more time to think about them.
I also finished listening to On the Hustle by Adriana Herrera, which was easily a 5 star read/listen, and then moved on to listening to old Lisa Kleypas audiobooks. I did however experience something truly horrifying which involved me listening to Chasing Cassandra while carrying way too many grocery bags, and then having an intimate scene begin while on the elevator with a nice old lady who started to talk to me, and because I couldn’t put my bags down I had to carry out A FULL CONVERSATION while Mary Jane Wells was narrating sex into my ears—luckily my airpods didn’t suddenly die, because if that had happened I maybe would have just keeled over on the spot. I do not recommend. It was maybe the most traumatizing 3 minutes of my life. It may in fact be the end of my audiobook era.
currently reading
A few nights ago I started The Right to Sex: Feminism in the Twenty-First Century by Amia Srinivasan. It’s written as a series of essays which makes it easy to read in increments. The writing is incredibly accessible and thought-provoking. If you know anyone who is looking to learn more about feminism, then this is the book to point them too.
I’m going away to Vancouver Island for a short vacation next week and I am leaving my Kindle and iPad at home and only bringing along a stack of hardcopy books that I have on my TBR. First up is A Lady’s Guide to Fortune Hunting by Sophie Irwin which I have only heard good things about.
Happy February!
